Meningie Homestead

Meningie Homestead is the quintessential country homestead perched atop a hill looking out over rolling hills, mountains, and the Tambo River Valley. Spacious and filled with country charm and character, the name “Meningie” is derived from the Aboriginal word for mud, suiting the home perfectly with it’s earthy mudbrick and bush pole construction.

Well set up for a large family or group of friends with six bedrooms and five bathrooms across two wings and plenty of space and privacy for all. The central kitchen, dining, and living room provide space for large group meals and celebrations, and there is a pool table and rustic bar to enhance your evenings. Plenty of stories have been told around the outdoor firepit while enjoying the night sky and starry nights. The fire pit is well positioned near the BBQ along with ample outdoor furniture.

Meningie Homestead is also pet friendly, with an outdoor pet-safe area to leave your dogs if you need to head off for shopping or visit the nearby Metung Hot Springs or the local Tambo and Nicholson wineries.

A rustic fence separates the manicured lawn from the pastures which roll down to the private beach on the Tambo River. The path down to the beautiful Tambo is well-marked for vehicles or walking. Your group can enjoy swimming, kayaking (byo) and fishing in the river. Enjoy the seating area in the shade if you prefer to relax and take in the view, or the large mowed area perfect for a family game of cricket or Aussie Rules.

For those who adore nature, you will enjoy the riverbank revegetation and the billabong/ wetland which are being lovingly restored by the owners. The wetland area is abundant with birdlife and it is not unusual to see the Wedge Tailed Eagles, Kites, and Falcons flying overhead. Wedge Tailed Eagles are the largest bird of prey in the continent of Australia and we have a resident pair nesting nearby.

There are bikes available for use at the Homestead and it is right on the East Gippsland Rail Trail for safe riding away from any cars. Take a leisurely ride to nearby Bruthen for lunch and a drink at the Bullant Brewery or head to Nicholson where you can cross the historic rail bridge.

There is plenty to do in and around Bumberrah – Wineries, Metung Hot Springs, Buchan Caves, and Koala Walk Raymond Island. The Homestead is 10 minutes by car to Bruthen and Metung, and 15 minutes to Lakes Entrance.

We note that many guests find Meningie Homestead very relaxing with plenty to do. It’s not uncommon for guests to spend most of their time on the property to take advantage of the chance to wind down and spend quality time relaxing with friends and family.

  This was SO nice! It was such a good location, only 20 mins form main shops but far enough away to feel secluded. The amenities provided was amazing. There was cows to touch and horses to watch! The dog yard was small but the owners were on site and were find with well behaved doggos being inside. My old 10 year olds appreciated it! 🙏 The pnly thing I thought was a little strange was the owners coming past quite a few times without notice. It was awesome they bought extra wood for us but I was just thinking what if you were enjoying the serenity but not decent or something? They were SUPER nice though so it was okay. The BBQ only worked on one side unfortunately but there was heaps of pots and pans inside and extra blankets inside etc. The amount of rooms with ensuites was amazing tooo! Thank you thank you

  Meningie Homestead was just perfect for our annual reunion this year. The house was so spacious with plenty of room to spread out for our week there. Really well set up kitchen, comfy beds, spectacular views and so peaceful. The owners were so friendly and helpful (providing a spare bike wheel, taking the kayaks down to the river for us to use, including us when feeding cattle and sharing lots of information).   This homestead is very homely with a lot of character. Perfect layout and set up for a big family or multiple groups. Most rooms come with their own ensuite which is handy for a big group. Plus additional bathrooms. Plenty of amenities, cutlery, crockery and bath towels for everyone. The homestead was easy to find with plenty of parking. There were so many things to do at the home that we didn’t need to leave. There’s a pool table and a fireplace that warmed the whole house. We met the owner, Steve, who is so kind, friendly and hospitable, we loved chatting with him, and meeting his dogs and horses. We loved waking up every morning to the breathtaking views and relaxing in the evening watching the sunset over the hills. We didn’t want to leave. We’ll definitely be back and can’t wait to stay longer.

With 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms across two wings, everyone had their space and privacy. The central kitchen, dining and living rooms provided space for our large group and the pool table was great fun. There is plenty to do in and around Bumberrah - wineries, fruit farms, Bruthen, Metung and the beaches of Lakes Entrance. We loved our holiday here and will definitely be booking again.
